Select Committee on Public Accounts Minutes of Evidence

Examination of Witnesses (Questions 120 - 122)

WEDNESDAY 28 FEBRUARY 2001

MR CALLUM MCCARTHY, MR JOHN NEILSON AND MR STEPHEN REID

Chairman

  120. I think that would be a useful thing for us to have a note on, even if you need to go to the companies to get that information because it is something that is significant. Thank you. Just one last clarification question. We got two answers to the question as to whether the telephone number of energywatch was on bills, one said yes and one said no. What is the case?
(Mr Reid) I was not aware that I expressed a view on that. It is on the bills. The number is 0800 887777 and it is available here and now.

  121. The indication we got to Mr Davies was that it was not and to Mr Davidson that it was.
(Mr McCarthy) The answer, Chairman, is that the number which has transferred from Ofgem to energywatch is on the bills. Some of the bills, because they preceded the transfer from Ofgem to energywatch, still refer to it as an Ofgem number, others have made the transfer to energywatch and in time that number will be associated on all bills with energywatch.

  122. It is the same number?
  (Mr McCarthy) Yes[6].

Chairman: That is very helpful. It just remains for me to say thank you very much for coming, gentlemen, it has been a very interesting session. Thank you.

6   Note by Witness: The numbers are 0645 906 0708 for gas and 0845 601 3131 for electricity. These numbers may be changed by energywatch in the future. Back
