The Committee deliberated.

Mr Glenn Hull, Second Treasury Officer of Accounts, was further examined.

The Comptroller and Auditor General's report on The Prison Service: The Refinancing of the Fazakerley PFI Prison Contract (HC 584) was considered.

Sir David Omand, KCB, Permanent Under-Secretary of State, the Home Office; Mr Martin Narey, Director General, and Mr David Kent, Head of Contracts and Competition Group, HM Prison Service; Mr Robin Herzberg, Concessions Director, Carillion Private Finance; and Mr Andrew Banks, Managing Director, Group 4 Prison Services Limited and Director, Fazakerley Prison Services Limited were examined (HC 955-i)

In the absence of the Chairman, Mr Alan Williams took the Chair.

The Chairman resumed the Chair.

Resolved, That a copy of the uncorrected typescript of evidence taken this day (HC 955-i) be placed in the Library for the use of Members and in the Record Office for public inspection.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That the draft Report be read a second time, paragraph by paragraph.

Paragraphs 1 to 4 read and agreed to.

Paragraphs 5 and 6 postponed.

Paragraphs 7 to 57 read and agreed to.

Postponed paragraphs 5 and 6 again read and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the Thirteenth Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the provisions of Standing Order No. 134 (Select Committees (Reports)) be applied to the Report.
