Supplementary Memorandum submitted by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (PAC 138)
Figure 9 on page 31 of the Comptroller and Auditor General's Report records in a bar chart the price per student in 1998-99 for each pre-registration contract held with NHS Education and Training Consortia, by NHS region. Nine of the bars for the South Eastern Region are higher than the highest bar for the London Region. This is, on the face of it, surprising, as London costs would normally be expected to be the highest. However, the NHS South Eastern Region commissions some training from higher education institutions in London: of the nine prices higher than the highest price charged to the NHS London Region, six relate to courses by two London based universities.
