Letter to the Clerk of the Committee on
Standards and Privileges from Councillor Piara Singh Clair
Thank you very much for your letter of 23 January
2001.
I have spoken to the other officers of the Party
as I am bound to do and I write to you with the authority of the
Party.
Mrs Filkin asked for all our accounts and she gave
us no reason and she kept telling officers that we (The Labour
Party) was not involved, you have seen my correspondence and you
have seen my replies.
I took over as Treasurer in 1998 the immediate previous
Treasurer was John Robinson who did the job for 3 years. I do
not have accounts going back to 1993 to check your matter, but
I will inquire today how this can be done.
However, I can confirm to you that Councillor Thomas
has confirmed that the Party received a donation of £1,000
and that he collected it from Bakshish Singh Attwall. I shall
now make inquiries to see whether we can find it recorded.
I will revert as soon as possible.
