APPENDIX 33
Letter to Mr Philip Conway, Davenport
Lyons, Solicitors, from the Clerk of the Committee on Standards
and Privileges
MAPESBURY
COMMUNICATIONS
The Committee is grateful to you and Ms Fernandes
for attending this morning's meeting to give evidence. I am sorry
we had to keep you waiting so long before asking you in.
The unresolved question relates to the records showing
payments into and out of the company. What the Committee needs
to know is whether the company has received any payments linked
in any way to Mr Vaz, and whether it has made any payment for
the benefit of, or in any way associated with, Mr Vaz.
I would therefore be grateful if either Davenport
Lyons or Hard Dowdy, the company's accountants, could provide
me, for the information of the Chairman of the Committee, with
(a) a statement that they have inspected all
the available records of the company;
(b) details (including dates and amounts) of
any payments from Mr Sarosh Zaiwalla to the company, or to Mr
Zaiwalla from the company;
(c) the name of any person or organisation who
made any payment to the company of £1000 or more for any
purpose, and the purpose of the payment; and
(d) the name of any person or organisation to
whom the company made a payment of £1000 or more, or provided
a benefit worth £1000 or more.
The Chairman has asked me to say that he will only
pass on to the Committee any information from you or Hard Dowdy
which appears to him to be directly relevant to the Committee's
inquiry into the complaints against Mr Vaz.
The Committee appreciates the difficulties of obtaining
information about the early years of the company's operations.
It would be a great help if this information could
be provided by Wednesday 21 February.
