Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner
for Standards from Mr Gerald Shamash, Steel & Shamash, Solicitors
Thank you for your letter of 13 November 2000.
I have now been able to talk to my client about
the information you are seeking.
He has, as you are of course aware, explained
directly to you on the telephone and in correspondence that from
his recollection he has not made a direct appeal for funds.
However, so that he can be absolutely sure and
in view of the fact that you appear to have witnesses suggesting
that such an appeal was made, it would be helpful if you could
indication the period to which this relates.
Our client has been Secretary of the Constituency
Party for the period September 1992 until June 2000. This would
involve a considerable trawl through documentation. Some indication
of dates would assist. I would then hope to be able to respond
promptly to the queries raised.
I look forward to hearing from you.
