Select Committee on Standards and Privileges Third Report

Annex 116

Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards from Rose Turner, Lloyds TSB

COUNCILLOR M KAMAL

I am writing in answer to your letter dated 4 October 2000, may I first apologise for the time taken to reply. The main problem being the Melton Road branch where Councillor Kamal first opened his account, merged, we therefore had great difficulty in locating the appropriate account number and microfiche, luckily they had not been destroyed as we should only have kept them for 10 years.

Looking at Councillor Kamal's statements we have been able to trace a standing order to Leicester East Labour Party starting 28 October 1988 for £16.00 and then £8.00 monthly. The final payment was on 2 January 1990. We are unable to provide you with the beneficiary's details as the records at that time were not computerised and were destroyed after five years. Please find enclosed statements for 1987 and 1988 on Councillor Kamal's account as requested. I can supply later statements if needed.

I hope this is of help. Should you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
