Select Committee on Standards and Privileges Third Report

Annex 21

Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards from Mr Keith Vaz MP

PAUL GOSLING

I wrote to you on 28 March about Mr Gosling. I have now had an opportunity to locate the correspondence from 1994-95 when Mr Gosling and Mr Syal first raised the same complaint and I went to se the Registrar for advice.

I have also forwarded Mr Gosling's letter to the BCCI Campaign Committee as they have knowledge and expertise in this matter. They have now replied to me.

Mr Gosling claims to be a journalist. He does not mention that he was a former councillor in my constituency whom I have known for 15 years. Over the last few years he has been making a number of complaints to various authorities about me. None of these have been substantiated and none of them have been upheld.

  I am pleased to enclose:

  1.  Letter from BCCI Campaign Committee dated 4 April 2000—"A".

  2.  A copy of the Bulletin/Report from Spring 1991—"B".

  3.  A copy of my letter to the Registrar dated 30 January 1995—"C".

  4.  A letter to the Editor of The Sunday Times. It has writing on it from me to my solicitor. I do not know if it was sent, however it serves as a contemporaneous note—"D".

  5.  A print out of the Register for 1993—"E".

I hope that the above will assist you with your inquiries.

10 April 2000
