Letter to the former Parliamentary Commissioner
for Standards from Mr Keith Vaz MP
1. BPRI
I enclose a letter that has been sent to me
by Fiona Gunn the Project Manager of BPRI which I would like to
deposit with you.
I enclose a covering letter from them which
sets out what the present position is.
2. ANNUAL CALENDAR
Thank you for meeting with me and Roger Willoughby
concerning my Annual Calendar. I have set up a company called
"Mapesbury Communications Limited". It receives the
income from the Annual Calendar, together with all the earnings
I receive from outside parliament. The only earnings that I receive
at the moment are from my Radio Programme. The proceeds from this
company are used to support the work that I do with the Asian
community which I regard as being over and above my work as a
Member of Parliament. As yet no income has been spent from this
company on any parliamentary duties, but I anticipate that it
will pay for publications that cannot be paid by the Fees Office,
petrol payments for members of my staff, equipment such as computer
or a shredding machine. The Directors of the company are my wife
and mother-in-law.
I would be grateful if you would let me know
in what way I need to either declare or register this or whether
it is in indeed an interest that is registrable. I have already
as you know registered the calendar in previous years because
the income went directly to the House of Commons.
I look forward to receiving your replies.
