Select Committee on Standards and Privileges Third Report

Annex 48

Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards from Mr Geoffrey Bindman, Bindman & Partners, Solicitors

You will recall that in your letter of 4 July you identified the allegations against Mr Vaz and set them out under the different sources of the allegations. You referred to the Sunday Telegraph as having made allegations and you say that the source of these is in your letter to Mr Vaz of 14 March 2000. In your letter of 14 March you make no reference to the Sunday Telegraph as the source of the allegations and you merely summarise them.

The other sources referred to in your letter of 4 July are Mr Milne, Mr Gosling, and Mr Kamal and you have properly supplied copies of their letters containing the allegations. You have not done this in the case of the Sunday Telegraph.

I shall be obliged if you will supply as soon as possible a copy of any letter or other document in which the allegations made by the Sunday Telegraph were supplied to you. I can only assume that your failure to do so previously was the result of an oversight as indeed was my failure to draw the matter to your attention, for which I apologise.

24 October 2000
