Annex 155
Letter to Mr John Rafferty from the Parliamentary
Commissioner for Standards
You will recall that I was in touch with you some
time ago when you kindly provided answers to my questions to assist
my enquiry.
I am hoping to conclude the enquiry shortly but I
am afraid I need to ask you for one further piece of personal
information since the matter has been raised with me in evidence.
Mr Maxton tells me that the Labour Party dismissed
you, Mr John Rowley and Mr Willie Sullivan and he sent me a copy
of the attached press cutting to explain how he became aware of
these dismissals.
Please would you let me know whether this is an accurate
account and, if you were dismissed, the reasons for the dismissal.
If you have any documentary information about the termination
of your employment with the Labour Party perhaps you would let
have copies. I shall be writing in the same terms to the other
people mentioned but if you have any knowledge of the circumstances
surrounding the termination of their employment I would be grateful
to have that too. You may prefer to discuss this matter on the
telephone and if so please do not hesitate to phone me.
Thank you in advance for your help.
