Annex 48
File note by the Parliamentary Commissioner
for Standards
Mr John Maxton
3 April 2000
Telephone call.
Telephone call from John Maxton, he was not willing
to see me unless he has a letter from me setting out the evidence.
I said that I would happily write to him and put before him any
statements which were at variance with his before we met, so that
he had the opportunity to consider them and then have a discussion
with me about what he wanted to say to me. We agreed 5pm on 17
April so long I was able to consider the evidence I had, complete
my interviews and write to him, otherwise we would arrange a later
date.
He said he was concerned that we were asking a student
to fund her fare to London prior to coming. I said that if this
was difficult for the student we would of course either purchase
the ticket for her or provide her the funds so that she could
purchase the ticket and give us the receipts. He said he would
pass on the information to Suzanne Hilliard.
