Select Committee on Treasury Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary Note from the Consumers' Association

Following the hearing earlier, Michelle Childs said we would send through details of the current situation with ATM charges following a question from Giles Radice MP. The current situation is as follows:

    —  No customer will be double charged.
    —  Notice of charging is displayed on ATM screens.

Both of these measures are in the new Banking Code from Jan 2001.

    —  Banks have withdrawn their plans to direct charge.
    —  Most banks (including the big four) have withdrawn disloyalty charges.
Both of these are voluntary decisions by individual banks.
