Consultation

The content and format of the Weekly Information Bulletin is currently being reviewed. Comments from users would be welcome. In particular:

    1. Is there any information that you would expect to find in the Bulletin that is not there?

    2. If new material were added, what existing material could be removed without reducing the Bulletin's usefulness to you?

    3. How could the information in the Bulletin be more helpfully organised and presented?

GENERAL ELECTION JUNE 2001

Parliament will be dissolved on Monday 14 May.

The General Election will take place on Thursday 7 June. All 659 Westminster parliamentary constituencies in the United Kingdom will be contested. No elections will take place for the Scottish Parliament, National Assembly for Wales or the Northern Ireland Assembly. Local elections will also be held on Thursday 7th June

The new Parliament will be summoned to meet on Wednesday 13 June, when the first business will be the election of the Speaker and the swearing-in of members.

The State Opening will be on Wednesday 20 June.

A list of Members of Parliament will be available from the House of Commons Information Office after the Election.

Ballot for Private Members' Bills

It is expected that the Ballot will take place on 28 June 2001. A list of those successful will be available after 11.00am on that day.

Palace of Westminster: Summer Opening

The Palace of Westminster will be open to visitors this summer from 6th August until 29th September 2001. It will be closed on Sundays, Bank Holidays and some weekday mornings.
