Letter, 9 June 2000, from Sport England to the Football Association

WEMBLEY £20 MILLION PAYMENT

As you will be aware I have written on several occasions in relation to the payment by WNSL/FA of £20 million to Sport England. I am afraid, to date, we have received no indication from you about the payment of the sum despite the agreement between the FA and the Secretary of State earlier in the year.

As you will be aware the funding package for the redevelopment of Wembley should be concluded shortly and I believe it is essential to resolve the matter of the £20 million payment as a matter of some urgency. Clearly Chase Manhattan will also need to have this matter resolved if the payment is, in whole or in part, to be financed through the overall finance package.

I am anxious to resolve this matter immediately and as such I have asked my PA (Anne Browne) to set up a meeting with you as soon as possible. For obvious reasons I have copied by letter to the Secretary of State.
