SUBMISSION 29

Letter from the General Secretary of the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain

GOVERNMENTS PROPOSALS FOR THE REFORM OF GAMBLING LEGISLATION

It has come to my attention that a proposal has been put forward by BALPPA and BACTA that all low stake/low prize machines described in Category D should be licensed.

The Showmen's Guild of Great Britain are totally opposed to this proposal given the undeniable commonplace pleasure members of the public derive from playing these machines.

The administrative nightmare alone of setting up a licensing procedure for these innocuous machines legislates against giving any worthwhile consideration to this proposal.

Given the peripatetic nature of my members' business it would only add to the administrative nightmare I have already referred to and I urge the Government not to treat seriously this questionable proposal.
