Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Minutes of Evidence

Examination of Witness (Questions 140 - 141)

TUESDAY 5 NOVEMBER 2002

MR PETER STEVENSON

Chairman

  140. Mr Stevenson, I am going to conclude there because we have just been told that a vote is coming shortly, but we have indeed come to the conclusion of the questions we did want to ask you, and we are most grateful to you for being very precise in your answers.
(Mr Stevenson) May I make one very brief closing statement?

  141. Very quickly, please.

(Mr Stevenson) I am aware that the Committee has had some doubts and questions, and I just want to finish by saying that I really would urge you to support the broad thrust of the Commission's thinking on animal welfare. I really believe it could make a really helpful difference in the attempt to achieve higher animal welfare standards. Thank you.
