The Committee deliberated.      

Draft Special Report, proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read the first and second time, and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the First Special Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the Government's response to the Eighth Report from the Agriculture Committee in Session 2000-2001 [New Covent Garden Market] be appended to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Report be the Second Special Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the Government's response to the Seventh Report of the Agriculture Committee in Session 2000-2001 [The Implementation of IACS in the European Union] be appended to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee do inquire into the Future of UK Agriculture, into the Impact of Foot and Mouth Disease and into the Work of the Countryside Agency.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That Sub-committees be appointed by the Committee on an ad hoc basis to consider specific topics for inquiries.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That a Sub-committee be appointed to consider Radioactive Waste Policy.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That whenever possible transcripts of evidence taken from Ministers be published uncorrected on the Internet.—(The Chairman.)

Foot and Mouth Disease and Other Matters: Rt. Hon. Margaret Beckett, a Member of the House, Secretary of State, and Mr Jim Scudamore, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, were examined.
