The Committee deliberated.

Draft Special Report, proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read the first and second time, and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the Fourth Special Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the Government's response to the Fifth Report of the Environment, Transport and Regional Affairs Committee in Session 2000-2001 [Sustainable Waste Management] be appended to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That those who submit Memoranda in relation to any inquiry of the Committee have leave to publish them subject to the agreement of the Clerk of the Committee.—(The Chairman.)

Future of UK Agriculture: Penny Coates, Business Unit Director, Asda Stores Limited, Mr Ian Merton, Director of Food, J Sainsbury plc, and Lucy Neville-Rolfe, Corporate Affairs Director, Tesco plc, were examined.

Katharine Walters, Government Relations Manager, The Co-operative Group, Mr Simon Hughes, Fresh Meat Buyer, Netto Foodstores Limited, and Mr Kevin Hawkins, Director of Communications, Safeway Stores plc, were examined.
