The Committee deliberated.

Ordered, That Mr Eric Martlew be a member of the Illegal Meat Imports Sub-committee when that Sub-committee is appointed.—(The Chairman.)

Draft Special Report, proposed by the Chairman, brought up and read the first and second time, and agreed to.

Resolved, That the Report be the Sixth Special Report of the Committee to the House.

Ordered, That the Chairman do make the Report to the House.

Ordered, That the Government's response to the First Report of the Committee in Session 2001-2002 [The Impact of Foot and Mouth Disease] be appended to the Report.—(The Chairman.)

Future of UK Agriculture: Rt Hon Margaret Beckett, a Member of the House, Secretary of State, for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, was further examined and Lord Whitty, a Member of the House of Lords, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State (Lords), and Mr Andy Lebrecht, Director General, Food, Farming and Fisheries, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, were examined.
