Supplementary Memorandum from Mr Elliot Morley MP, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs

  I promised to provide a number of notes on matters of particular interest to the Committee and have enclosed these with this letter. I am grateful to the Clerk of the Committee for confirming the notes required.

  They are:

    1.  Note on illegal imports of meat (Annex 1).

    2.  Note on number of appeals against contiguous culls and eventual fate of the livestock on the premises involved (Annex 2).

    3.  Note on informal appeals procedure before the Divisional Veterinary Manager (Annex 3).

    4.  Note on compensation payable to farmers who might be convicted of deliberately infecting their animals (with reference to Human Rights legislation) (Annex 4).
