Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Minutes of Evidence

Correspondence form Dixons Group plc to the Permanent Secretary, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, 22 January 2002

As I have not had an acknowledgement from you to my letter of 17 December, I wondered if you had not received it, so I enclose a copy herewith.

Doubtless you will have seen the enclosed article in last Sunday's Sunday Telegraph and the subsequent news reports on television. We pointed out to you and to your officials that this fly-tipping was likely to be a development which would follow our suspension of collection of old fridges.

As I said in my letter, we and the rest of the industry would be only too happy to resume collection if there was somewhere we could take them. I remain convinced that it is in the best interests of all parties to come to such a conclusion and I would urge that we do so before the situation gets completely out of hand.
