Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Minutes of Evidence

Supplementary Memorandum submitted by Dixons Group plc

I enclose the letters as requested:

    —  9 August 2001 from Anna Stacey, DTI, confirming that Article 16(2) of EC Regulation 2037/2000 did apply to CFC foam in domestic fridges.

    —  Correspondence between Bill Moyes of the BRC and Lord Haskins including the copy of Lord Haskins' letter to Mrs Beckett.

I also enclose a copy of a letter from Robert Mason of the DETR Global Atmosphere Division dated 5 January 2001 in response to ours to him of 5 December 2000 (also enclosed). Although this letter confirmed the delay in implementing the requirement to de-gas prior to export to 8 January 2001, it seems to acknowledge that the Department recognised that the Regulations would require the removal of CFCs in foam even though they were, initially, taking a pragmatic stance to implementation.
