Correspondence from the Department of
Trade and Industry to Dixons Group plc, 9 August 2001
Following the coming into force of the EC Regulation
2037/2000 on substances that deplete the ozone layer, the European
Commission has recently clarified that Article 16(2) of the Regulation
applies to insulating foam in domestic fridges. This Article of
the Regulation requires CFCs and other ozone depleting chemicals
within domestic fridges to be removed and destroyed in an environmentally
friendly manner.
I appreciate that it is short notice and in
the middle of the holiday season, but we feel that it would be
useful to hold a meeting for industry stakeholders as soon as
possible to discuss the issues with those in DEFRA and the Environment
Agency responsible for implementing the Regulation's requirements.
The date of this meeting is planned for 21 August 2001 at 2:30
pm in the DTI Conference Centre, 1 Victoria Street, London SW1H
0ET. A map is attached[4].
If you are unavailable to attend this meeting, please feel free
to call us to discuss or to send a representative. We are planning
at this early stage to have future meetings anyway.
