TIMESCALES INVOLVED IN THE AUTHORISATION OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS USING THE SUBSTITUTE FUELS PROTOCOL

  The trialing process and timing is strictly defined in the protocol. Both minimum and typical times involved in this Process are given below.

MINIMUM TYPICAL

   Timescales

1.Determination of Application/consultation of stakeholders 4 months>6 months
2.Baseline operation2 months1 2 months
3.Commissioning/optimisation2 months2>4 months
4.Trialing the fuel at the selected replacement rate 2 months 2 months
At the end of the trial use of the fuel must discontinue until permanent authorisation is achieved. Environmental gains achieved during the trialing period are immediately reversed and the plant returns to higher emission levels.
5.Trial report preparation3/application for permanent use 3 months 3 months
6.Agency determination44 months>6 months
