Select Committee on Modernisation of the House of Commons Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Letter from Mr Brian H Donohoe MP to the Clerks of the Committee

I refer to the consultation document published on the 12th December and would wish to respond.

I feel very strongly that whilst there are some good ideas in the report not enough has been considered of the fact that there are a great number of MPs' whose main home with Family is not within a travel range that is able to be reached every evening.

It therefore follows that the hours you work when away from home should be long, several other jobs that are undertaken by our Constituents are in this category, and would be compensated by longer periods within the Constituency.

Not enough is done to fit in with varying school holidays and perhaps could be an area that could be more seriously addressed.

I trust my comments will be accepted in the spirit of the consultation document and look forward to developments with interest.
