APPENDIX 6
Letter from Mrs Claire Curtis-Thomas MP
to the Chairman of the Committee
THE ELECTION OF SELECT COMMITTEES
I recently received correspondence from Graham
Allen MP, regarding the reform of Select Committee election procedures.
I have considerable sympathy for his views on this issue.
It is no longer permissible for large companies
to audit their own affairs, and therefore I believe it is anathema
for the Government to select its own auditors in a similar fashion.
Members of Parliament seeking election to Select
Committees should have the overwhelming approval of their fellow
MPs for them to secure appointment.
I would be grateful for your views on this matter,
as I generally support Grahams views regarding the restructuring
of the Select Committee election process.
