Select Committee on Northern Ireland Affairs Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Memorandum submitted by Banbridge District Council

The Council has recently been considering the proposal to introduce an Aggregates Tax in Northern Ireland.

There are several large quarry operators in business in this district and there would be very serious concerns over the effect that such a tax would have on their operation, particularly in view of our proximity to the border with the Republic of Ireland.

A letter has been sent to the Chancellor of the Exchequer on the matter and the Council would be grateful if its views could be made known when the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee considers the matter at its meeting.
