Thank you for your letter of 3 May 2001 and the information
you have provided.
As I understand it you purchased the above property
with you wife in 1988. You claimed office rent from the Office
Costs Allowance from 1996-1997 on which you paid tax. The property
was transferred to your daughters and from the date that they
became owners you paid the rent allowance, which is provided through
the OCA, to you daughters.
Please would you let me know the following:
1. The date on which ownership was transferred to
your daughters?
2. Whether since that date you have continued
to pay tax and claim allowances against the tax on the rental
allowance and/or whether your daughters have paid the tax and
claimed allowances on the rent which you pay to them?
3. How the rent level was set and whether the
level was agreed with the Finance Department?
4. Whether the property has been used throughout
solely as your office or let for any other purpose?
Please would you also let me know the reason why
you neither registered this property during the period you were
its joint owner nor brought to my attention when I asked you whether
you had failed to register any other property during my investigation
earlier this year?
