Annex vii21
Letter to Mr Nadhmi S Auchi, General Mediterranean
Holding, from the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards
You may be aware that I am currently investigating
complaints that Mr Keith Vaz MP may have failed to enter some
of his financial interests, or benefits which he received, in
the Register of Members' Interests or that he failed to enter
them within the timescale required by Parliament.
I am grateful for the assistance I am receiving from
your Company Secretary, Mr A Husain, and for the help given to
me by Lord Lamont.
I have taken evidence from a number of witnesses.
I am now seeking to verify information. I feel that I should verify
the information, which relates to your businesses, with you because
you will be able to provide an accurate and complete picture.
It goes without saying that there is no implication
whatsoever that any of your businesses acted improperly by appointing
Mr Vaz as a Director or providing him with other benefits. My
only concern is whether Mr Vaz fulfilled his obligations to Parliament
and my task is to put before the Standards and Privileges Committee
of the House of Commons a complete and correct account.
I would be grateful therefore if you would come to
see me so that we can discuss these matters. May I request that
you telephone me to arrange a time convenient to you. I enclose
a leaflet which sets out the complaints process of the House of
Commons.
