Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner
for Standards from the Rt Hon Lord Steel of Aikwood KBE DL
Thank you for your letter of 14th September requesting
information in connection with Mr Keith Vaz.
I am sorry that I am unable to answer the three questions
that you put. The board of GMH on which I serve is not responsible
for the appointment of remuneration of directors of the various
subsidiary companies. That is properly done at each of their agm's.
What I can tell you is that the first I knew that
Mr Vaz was a director of a subsidiary was when I read it in the
company's annual report. I understand that his appointment was
short-lived because he then became a minister. His arrival and
departure may well have occurred in between any two meetings of
the main board.
