Annex i5A
Letter to Ms Maria Fernandes from the
Clerk of the Committee on Standards and Privileges
The Committee on Standards and Privileges Committee
has asked me to write to you further to Mr Robert Sheldon's letter
of 20 March about payments from the Hinduja family or the Hinduja
Foundation to Mapesbury Communications.
The Committee would be grateful if you could provide
me, for the Committee's use, with a copy of the full list of payments
into and out of Mapesbury which you showed Mr Sheldon on 15 February.
The Committee will treat this as confidential unless any item
on it turns out to be relevant to their inquiry.
The Committee may need to have access to the papers
of the company, about which you were asked when you gave evidence
to the Committee on 13 February. I would be grateful if you could
let me know where the surviving papers are held and who has custody
of them. The Committee would also be grateful for an assurance
that those papers will be preserved in the event of the dissolution
of the company.
The Committee may also need to have access to the
VAT records relating to the company. The Committee appreciates
the assistance which you and Mr Vaz have provided to the Commissioner
in her current inquiry and would be grateful for your written
agreement to an approach being made to Customs & Excise in
relation to those records.
The Committee will look forward to receiving your
full reply to Mr Sheldon's letter to you in due course.
