APPENDIX 5
Letter to Mr Keith Vaz MP
from the Clerk of the Committee on Standards
and Privileges
As you know, the Committee on Standards and Privileges
has received a report from the Parliamentary Commissioner for
Standards on the complaints made against you.
* * *
For the avoidance of doubt, the Committee would be
grateful if you could let me have written responses to two of
the questions put to you by the Commissioner in her letter of
19 October (Annex ii78 to her memorandum), namely:
"On what date did your employment with the
law centre formally cease and, if different, what was the date
up to which you were paid?"
and
"...please confirm for the record that you
have now provided me [i.e. the Commissioner] with complete
information about all your property interests, in the UK or elsewhere,
during the time you have been a Member of Parliament?"
The Committee would also be grateful if you could
provide it with written responses to the following questions:
(i) Have you ever had any connections with a
Mr *** (or a Mr ***)?
(ii) Have you ever had any connection whatsoever
with *** Ltd or (to the best of your knowledge) with any person
connected in any way at any time with the company?
(iii) Have you ever had any connection with,
or raised any question with anyone about, the Intervention Board's
investigation into *** Ltd?
I would be grateful if you would let me have your
reply on these points as soon as possible, but in any event by
3 January 2002.
Please do not hesitate to get in touch with me if
you would like any further help or advice.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Mr Geoffrey
Bindman.
