APPENDIX 27
Letter to Detective Superintendent Nick
Gargan, Leicestershire Constabulary,
from Councillor Merlyn Vaz
Thank you for your letter of 25th January 2002.
Although I welcome the re-wording of your letter
it is still phrased in a way leaving open the accusation that
I may have chosen not to co-operate about the call I received.
If you have read the letter from the hospital you will be aware
that there was just no choice open to me. Indeed as I said, my
consultant told your officers this when they called at the hospital
where I was in intensive care. I also note that your letter was
based on hearing from everyone else except the victim, me. Thank
you for telling me that you place a high priority on being responsive
to the needs of victims. My current course of treatment ends around
next week and I will ask my daughter to ring you so that I can
give you whatever information you need and decide with you how
to take matters forward.
