Annex A
Letter to the Parliamentary Commissioner
for Standards
from Mrs Jacqui Lait MP
You may be aware that Mr Nigel Griffiths, MP for
Edinburgh South, has apologised for using his constituency office
as his 2001 General Election Campaign base, without informing
the Fees Office.
I understand that such use contravenes the rules
of the Commons. While I note that Mr Griffiths has apologised,
it also appears that is not the only occasion on which he has
used the office during an election campaign.
Given these alleged circumstances I would request
that you investigate these claims and satisfy yourself as to the
true extent to which Mr Griffiths has used his office for political
purposes and, in light of any conclusion you reach, whether he
should make any financial reparations.
