Select Committee on Transport, Local Government and the Regions Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Memorandum by Footpath Secretary, Warrington Group, The Ramblers Association (NT 42)

At the present time great emphasis is being made, both nationally and locally, regarding footpath networks in relation to health, environmental and related issues.

We have a good working relationship with the authorities responsible for implementing the developments previously agreed in the Warrington New Town areas.

There are, however, anomalies remaining from earlier New Town developments eg the footpath network around the Birchwood golf course.

In addition there are many problems in the Warrington footpath network, not directly connected with New Town developments, which could be resolved with an overall view taking into consideration both the New Town areas and the other areas of the Warrington Borough Council.

At this stage could some form of joint initiative with Warring Borough Council be considered to enable the overall footpath network achieve its full potential?
