Transport Sub-Committee Press Notice No. 36, of
Session 2001/02, 30 January 2002
The Transport Sub-Committee of the Transport, Local
Government and the Regions Committee invited Lord Birt to provide
oral evidence to the inquiry into the 10 Year Plan in his capacity
as a strategy adviser on transport to the Forward Strategy Unit
of the Cabinet Office.
We have been informed that Lord Birt will not be
accepting that invitation. This Committee has a locus in the work
of Lord Birt's team and we believe that he should come before
the Committee.
It is important that those engaged in policy should
be accountable to Parliament through the Select Committee system.
