Select Committee on Work and Pensions Minutes of Evidence

Annex B

"TRIGGER REGIME" FOR WORK FOCUSSED INTERVIEWS

  People claiming Jobseeker's Allowance will continue with the current intervention regime of fortnightly signing and regular reviews. Those claiming other benefits will be subject to an intervention regime based on certain life events or at three-year intervals if none of the life event triggers apply.

  The exception is lone parents. Those lone parents making a new claim to Income Support will be required to attend a meeting with their personal adviser six months after the claim has been established and then annually.

  Life event triggers are:

    —  Where a client remains entitled to benefit following a Personal Capacity Assessment (in practice where a Capability Report is also produced);

    —  Where a client starts or ends a period of part-time work;

    —  Where a client ends an education or training course arranged through their personal adviser;

    —  Where a carer's Invalid Care Allowance ceases but other benefit remains in payment;

    —  Where a client who claimed aged 16/17 turns 18.
