MEMORANDA
 

TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR TABLING ORAL QUESTIONS

    Following the decisions of the House of 29th October, a new system for tabling oral questions will take effect from 1st January 2003. The Speaker has directed that the `shuffles' for oral questions to be taken in the week the House returns from the recess will take place at 12.30 p.m. on Thursday 19th December. The `shuffles' will be for the following Departments:

The first day on which questions may be tabled for these departments will be Monday 9th December.

NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR TABLING ORAL QUESTIONS FROM 1st JANUARY 2003


    The new tabling system will allow Members to table at any time and on any sitting day from immediately after Question Time to a particular department to three sitting days before the next Question Time (excluding Fridays). For oral questions to the Secretaries of State for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the deadline will be five sitting days before Question Time. All `shuffles' will take place at 12.30 p.m. on the final tabling day. Receipt of oral questions electronically and by post will start from 1st January.
    The deadline and the `shuffles' for oral questions for the week beginning Monday 13th January will be as follows:

    Applications for a half-hour adjournment debate at the conclusion of the main debate at the afternoon sitting on Thursday 5th December should be submitted to the Speaker's Office by 10.00 p.m. or the rising of the House (whichever is the earlier) on Monday 2nd December. The Ballot will take place on Tuesday 3rd December.

SCOTTISH GRAND COMMITTEE

[Sitting at Westminster on Tuesday 10th December at 10.30 a.m.]

    Applications for a half-hour adjournment debate at the conclusion of the main debate at the sitting on Tuesday 10th December should be submitted to the Speaker's Office by 10.00 p.m. or the rising of the House (whichever is the earlier) on Tuesday 3rd December. The Ballot will take place on Wednesday 4th December.
