TRANSITIONAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR TABLING ORAL QUESTIONS | ||
Following the decisions of the House of 29th October, a new system for tabling oral questions will take effect from 1st January 2003. The Speaker has directed that the `shuffles' for oral questions to be taken in the week the House returns from the recess will take place at 12.30 p.m. on Thursday 19th December. The `shuffles' will be for the following Departments: |

Tuesday 7th January | Scotland Advocate General Lord Chancellor's Department President of the Council and House of Commons Commission |
Wednesday 8th January | Northern Ireland Prime Minister |
Thursday 9th January | Education and Skills Solicitor General |
The first day on which questions may be tabled for these departments will be Monday 9th December. | ||
NEW ARRANGEMENTS FOR TABLING ORAL QUESTIONS FROM 1st JANUARY 2003 | ||
The new tabling system will allow Members to table at any time and on any sitting day from immediately after Question Time to a particular department to three sitting days before the next Question Time (excluding Fridays). For oral questions to the Secretaries of State for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the deadline will be five sitting days before Question Time. All `shuffles' will take place at 12.30 p.m. on the final tabling day. Receipt of oral questions electronically and by post will start from 1st January. | ||
