The Committee deliberated.

1. Own-label wines

Ordered, That the Committee should receive a report on the feasibility of having own-label wines delivered directly to Members.—(The Chairman.)

2. Performance of music at a function in the House (CAT/079 and CAT/080)

Resolved, That the Chairman convey to the Speaker the Committee's opinion on a request by a Member of the House.—(The Chairman.)

3. Drambuie (CAT/081 and CAT/082)

The Committee further deliberated.

Resolved, That the Committee does not accede to a request from a Member of the House that Drambuie be withdrawn from sale within the House.—(The Chairman.)

4. Opening of the Churchill Room to staff

Resolved, That the Churchill Room should be opened to all staff in the week before the House rises for the Christmas recess.—(The Chairman.)

1. Performance of music at functions in the House (CAT/084 and CAT/085)

Ordered, That the Chairman convey to Mr Speaker the Committee's opinion on two requests by Members of the House.—(The Chairman.)

2. Visitor centre (CAT/083)

Resolved, That the Committee broadly supports plans to improve facilities for visitors; but does not support any option for a visitor centre involving the relocation of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association or Inter-Parliamentary Union or the redevelopment of the W Rooms.—(The Chairman.)

3. Changes in the opening times of the Pugin Room (CAT/089)

The Committee further deliberated.

Resolved, That the Committee supports the proposal for the earlier opening of the Pugin Room and introduction of a light breakfast service. —(The Chairman.)

4. Time of meetings

Resolved, That the Committee normally meet on Wednesday afternoons at Four o'clock at approximately monthly intervals.—(The Chairman.)

1. No Smoking Day campaign (CAT/090)

Resolved, That No Smoking Day on 12 March 2003 should be promoted and that hon. Members and staff be invited to observe it.—(The Chairman.)

2. Delegations (CAT/092)

Resolved, That the Committee notes its new delegations from the House of Commons Commission.—(The Chairman.)

Ordered, That the Secretary to the House of Commons Commission should convey to the Commission the earnest desire of the Catering Committee to work in harmony with the Commission.—(The Chairman.)

3. Merchandising and retailing (CAT/091)

The Committee further deliberated.

Resolved, That the Committee should receive a report on the future of the Westminster Hall Kiosk.—(The Chairman.)

4. Refurbishment of the Lords catering facilities: Summer 2003 (CAT/093)

The Committee further deliberated.

Resolved, That Members of the House of Lords should have access to the Churchill Room, with up to three guests, during the summer recess while the House of Lords kitchens are refitted.—(The Chairman.)

5. Staff use of the Members' seating area in the Terrace Cafeteria (CAT/094)

Resolved, That staff of the House, excluding contractors, should have access to the Members' seating area in the Terrace Cafeteria on Fridays, except when significant numbers of Members are expected to be in the House.—(The Chairman.)

6. Regional menus

Resolved, That the Committee notes plans for a series of regional promotions.—(The Chairman.)

7. Jubilee choir reception in Portcullis House

Resolved, That, given the exceptional nature of the event and subject to restrictions imposed by the Serjeant at Arms, the Committee recommends that permission be given for the use of Portcullis House Atrium on 18 June for a reception after a gala concert by the Parliament Choir; and that the Committee agree to the closure of the Adjournment and Debate restaurants on the afternoon of 18 June to allow staff to prepare for the reception.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee supports the Refreshment Department's proposals for prices in the cafeterias and for the menus in the Dining Rooms in 2003-04.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee recommends to the Finance and Services Committee that the price of alcohol served at functions in the first floor rooms of Portcullis House be brought into line with those for banqueting.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee should receive a report on the price of fairly traded bananas.—(The Chairman.)

4. Use of local produce supplier

Resolved, That the Committee recommends that the request by a Member for the use of local suppliers for a reception in the House be agreed to.—(The Chairman.)

5. Catering subsidy (CAT/120 and CAT/121)

Resolved, That the Committee notes that the Finance and Services Committee and the House of Commons Commission have agreed a package of measures to reduce the level of subsidy.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee recommends that the Refreshment Department's proposals for implementation dates be agreed to.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee should receive a report on possible links between banqueting on Friday evenings and Line of Route tours.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee recommends that the Refreshment Department's proposals for new menus, abolishing the Carvery trolley in the Members' Dining Room, and offering the evening buffet table in the Members' Dining Room on Monday, be agreed to.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, That the Committee should receive a further report on new menus for the Churchill room.—(The Chairman.)

Resolved, that the Committee recommends that the Refreshment Department's proposal that the Churchill Dining Room remain closed on Monday lunchtimes, Thursday evenings and Friday lunchtimes, unless booked for private functions, be agreed to.—(The Chairman.)

5. Feedback on the summer opening of the line of route (CAT/125 and CAT/126)

The Committee further deliberated.

Resolved, That the Committee recommends that the Refreshment Department's proposal regarding the Westminster Hall Kiosk should be agreed to.—(The Chairman.)
