Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport Written Evidence

APPENDIX 82

Memorandum submitted by Positive Profile Ltd

I am a director of Positive Profile, a firm of public relations consultants with clients in the house building, energy, stockbroking and media sectors. More information about our firm can be seen on our website www.positiveprofiles.co.uk.

I am also a member of the executive committee of the Institute of Public Relations, which has a membership of nearly 8,000 and is the leading voice of the profession. This letter, however, expresses my personal views.

I have regular dealings with newspapers and magazines, most of them constructive but sometimes things go wrong, of course. They do in every industry. The key is how to put them right.

I have always found that using the newspaper Code gets action and results. I have also found the PCC to be of great use in giving informal advice about problems, which is an important service they offer.

For example, a national newspaper recently carried an article about one of my clients which was incorrect and one-sided. The advice provided by the PCC enabled me to arrive at a satisfactory resolution of the matter.
