Select Committee on Culture, Media and Sport Written Evidence

APPENDIX 90

Memorandum submitted by Mrs A

I am writing in response to a letter which I received from the Press Complaints Commission.

In 2001 I had cause to write to the Press Complaints Commission following an article in my local newspaper (the Guernsey Evening Press) which has caused a breach of medical confidentiality. The unfortunate article had severe repercussions at the time, and has severely affected my life to the present time.

I contacted the Commission at that time, and they were incredibly sympathetic and helpful, securing a written apology (after several attempts!) from the Editor of the Guernsey Evening Press.

I would not hesitate to contact the Commission again should the need arise, although I sincerely hope that it will not.

Should you wish to contact me for further details, I would be happy to help you. I would prefer to keep my details anonymous.
