NORTH WEST VISION—THE REGIONAL BRANCH OF THE FILM COUNCIL

It has barely been running for 12 months, and I am full of praise for what it has accomplished to date in the short-term.

I attended two of its roadshows when they explained funding applications, what they would fund and what they could not, and how they could help. We have not yet submitted an application but they will give advice both before and after it is formally submitted, which is useful for all. Such funds are primarily directed at film-makers.

They have volunteered to take over the administration of the North West Film Exhibitors Consortium, which means arranging venues, taking the minutes and posting them out, etc. For people who have to give up their spare time to attend and take on additional duties, this is a great relief and help.

They made a short DVD of North West Film Shorts and took it to Cannes to promote. I obtained a copy. It was well planned and well thought out, with plenty of contact information so that the film-makers can be reached directly. It was an impressive initiative.

There were existing film offices in Manchester and Liverpool. They have now established similar offices in Lancashire, Cheshire and Cumbria so that the whole of the North West has the potential to benefit.
