SUBMISSION 8
Supplementary Memorandum submitted by
the Film Societies North West (part of the British Federation
of Film Societies)
Further to my recent submission in January,
there is dramatic breaking news of massive redundancies at the
British Film Institute (see attached) (not printed). This
will have a dramatic impact on the non-cinema film exhibition
centre such as film societies who are dependent on DVDs rather
than 35mm. The bfi was one of only two distributors and
catered for the less commercial releases.
As a small group can now be set up with a DVD
player and data projector and a sound system, for a capital outlay
of less than £5,000, this threatens all small groups of whatever
cultural, regional, ethnic, community, disabled minorities they
are. Please don't overlook this in your enquiries.
