Letter from the Minister for Defence Procurement
to the Chairman (13 February 2003)
I am writing to let you know that we have awarded
a £441 million contract for the modified Sting Ray lightweight
torpedo to BAE Systems Electronics Ltd, Underwater Systems Division,
Waterlooville. I attach a copy of the statement which Adam Ingram
made in the House of Commons on 13 February. As you will note,
the contract should sustain approximately 300 UK jobs, with some
120 of these at the Waterlooville site.
This is, I hope, very positive news for the
workforce at Waterlooville.
