Select Committee on Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Written Evidence

Memorandum submitted by D.B. & H.M. Masters (X03)

I write as a poultry producer concerned by present and proposed legislation as to its effects on the British poultry industry.

  1.  We have among the highest welfare standards in the world, as a result we also have some of the highest production costs.

  2.  Unregulated imports from lower welfare standard producing countries causes havoc within the UK market.

  3.  Different feed inputs and hygiene standards used abroad create health for British consumers.

  4.  Cost of future rules ie IPPC CCL will create huge added costs.

These are but a few of the problems facing the home poultry producers. I would welcome the opportunity to go into greater detail if required.
