Select Committee on Foreign Affairs Minutes of Evidence

Examination of Witnesses (Questions 1420-1422)

RT HON JACK STRAW MP, MR PETER RICKETTS, CMG AND MR WILLIAM EHRMAN, CMG

27 JUNE 2003

Q1420  Mr Maples: It is on the record.

  Mr Straw: Yes.

Q1421  Mr Maples: The whole thing?

  Mr Straw: Yes.

  Mr Maples: Okay.

Q1422  Mr Pope: My final question is Gilligan has four sources and one of them, he said, had sight of a GIS document that he said was classified "Top Secret". I am not an expert on the Official Secrets Act, that would seem to me, at least, prima facie, a breach of the Officials Secret Act. Will there be an inquiry to find out who those sources are?

Mr Straw: *** It is a matter for senior people in the MoD, I think. I am sure they will be pursuing the matter.

Chairman: Jack, you are busy and you have given us the time. Can I thank you and your advisers and close the meeting.
