Select Committee on Public Administration Appendices to the Minutes of Evidence

Memorandum by English Nature (PAP 39)

I would like to confirm that English Nature has no substantive observations to make on the consultation exercise currently being undertaken by the House of Commons Public Administration Select Committee.

We do however whole-heartedly support the principles of transparency and accountability within the system of public appointments. The non-executive members of English Nature's Council are appointed by our sponsors, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and represent a wide cross-section of experience and expertise. English Nature's experience has been that the public appointments made on its behalf play a vital role in sustaining and developing its work within a clear framework of good governance.
