Letter from ArtWatch UK (PAP 50)

APPOINTMENT OF MUSEUM TRUSTEES

We write in support of the submission made to you today by Dr Selby Whittingham of Donor Watch. I enclose, for your interest, a copy of our Newsletter 9 to which Dr Whittingham refers. His article appears on page 3.

May I also refer you to our own comments (pages two and seven) on shortcomings of the present system of trustee selection for museums and galleries. We are concerned that trustees frequently fail to protect works of art from needless and injurious "conservation" treatments.

More recently, we have also become concerned that trustees are sometimes party to denials of access to records of treatment carried out in galleries and museums. We discuss this matter in our current Newsletter 15 (pages 3 and 4), a copy of which I also enclose for your interest.
